Progress?

For those of you who know him, or have been following for the last year, you know that Eli has some issues. I am happy to report that in the last 3 months we have seen him grow out of almost ALL of his quirks (mostly related to a general dislike of humans and their contact...).

However, we are still dealing with his eating problems. He is still on a steady diet of finely pureed baby food and crackers (and that is a huge leap from where we were 6 months ago). We attempt chunky, slimy foods daily with no success. We still have never had to keep Tetley's dog food out of reach.

But as he has outgrown his overall shyness lately we have seen him taste test a variety of things and are hoping his food issues will be the next to disappear.
Here is what he WILL eat:

*cup cake wrappers (but NOT the frosting)

*erasers

*color wonder markers

*lip stick

*dice

*a pot pourri cinnamon stick

*and apparently, blue finger paint

I'm pretty sure this means fruits and vegetables are right around the corner.

Mental Images

I lost my camera for two weeks. I knew exactly the last moment that I saw it (taking it out of my pocket while in the car) and looked there twice before calling the two places I had been with it that day just to see if I was going crazy. I resigned myself to the fact that it probably fell out of the car in the parking lot and I ran over it, but I decided to look (and clean) in my car one more time.

Viola!

I was so excited to finally have it back and see what pictures were on there just waiting for me to download and write about. I turned it on and...nothing. Not nothing like the battery was dead or the screen was cracked or anything like that. Nothing like I hadn't taken any pictures in the last two weeks because the camera was lost in the car and so all of the cute memories I had were not in the camera but only in my head.
And because my head is pretty much spinning these days (more on that in another post...) I don't remember many of those moments now. Except for this one:

I hired a sitter for an evening to take Kurt on a date to a movie that we both decided was necessary to see in the theater. Before children, we were huge movie buffs. We would have weekends where we really didn't have any movies to go see because we had already seen most of them. Then children came along and I think I have been in a theater 6 times, and at least 3 of them were with a bunch of women. So this was a big deal. He was excited and after showering for the day put on jeans and a shirt and sweater that he would usually wear to work. The kids and I were at the table and when he graced us with his presence I said, "you look nice."
"Of course I do, I have a date."
Myka set down whatever she was eating, turned around to give him a good look and said, "Yeah dad, you look very stylish."

So someday I will post a pic of my stylish husband.
And of my daughter who has and uses correctly a larger vocabulary than I ever will.

But I guess the memories of her so matter-of-factly speaking her mind will just have to remain in my head.
