Second children. Younger brothers. Hand-me-downs will abound for these two (Eli will be riding an aqua and pink bike next summer...). And on top of it all, not only are their older sisters entering an age bracket where there are just a lot of fun things for them to do, their sisters also are, how do we say, "spirited" and still needing a lot of attention. Which leaves these two somewhat left out, sometimes fending for themselves, and literally for Sam (who has another sister behind him) in the middle.
And after Michaela (Sam's older sister) got to go to her third annual Daddy-Daughter dance last month, Sam was left asking when it was his turn to do something special. Sarah let him know that a Mother-Son Brunch should be coming up soon and they could do that together, but then found out it wasn't being held this year. We had a very small window where we could get away with the boys for a couple hours last week, so we quickly threw together a little Mother-Son Brunch of our own. Complete with games, goodie bags, and freedom to make animal sounds in a restaurant, it was a hit for both boys. We will surely be making this an annual tradition for our very special little guys who need their own mommy time once in awhile.
My favorite part of the morning was when Sam, who was SO excited for the event, would just randomly belt out "Mother Son Breakfast!" while we were eating, or waiting, or walking to the bathroom. It's nice that we could make something that seemed so simple to us so fun and memorable for them.
